In California, if it's not potholes, it's shredded truck tires, mattress', coolers, dead animals, wooden crates, boxes, furniture, car parts (saw a whole transmission in the middle of the freeway), whole wheels with tire, bumpers, fenders, you name it.
 I don't know how anyone can avoid hitting something.  Sorry about your wheel.
