Roomate is a toyota tech...that's what he says kills all the ones that have to be replaced across the board.
As to the hydrolock sleeves, tyvek is the same thing, although not as pretty as what you might find at an autoparts store.

I still think that out of the thousands of yaris owners posting here and thousands more 1NZ owners on scionlife we'd hear about more hydrolock if it were such a huge issue. 99% of posts I've searched are just people telling other people their car will hydrolock if they install an aftermarket filter.
