It spent a month in the shop and came out looking like new.
Hmmm, I looked up KBB on the Yaris.... damn these little bastards keep their value haha retail value is $12,235, but I only owe like $4,500.

To total it doesn't the damage have to be a certain amount of the cars value or something???

I'm betting that they total it. I've been looking into buying some totaled Yaris from the insurance salvage auctions and have seen ones with less damage than that listed with salvage titles.

Generally the damage needs to be greater than 75% of the current market value to be considered a total loss (although this varies from insurance company to insurance company).

I recently totalled my '09 Yaris and the repair bill was $16200......$3000 more than I paid for it!

It's hard to tell if yours will be totalled, but you really do want it to be. Even if they fix it properly, it will forever be branded as salvage so its resale value will always be less than one that was never wrecked. Now if you plan on keeping it and driving it forever then this isn't much of a concern.
