I installed it during the spring, now at least 6 months later we have not had a problem with smell since we got the carpet to stop smelling.

So you changed about 4 or 5 different varriables(including the filter) and you got better results....And you are claiming better results solely on the filter install? I have had a cabin air filter since day 1 in my 2007 Yaris and the AC smells pretty bad. I have a cabin air filter in my 2008 Yaris and it doesn't smell at all. Therefore it sounds like your smell was being caused by one of the other few things you changed not on the fact that you added a filter.

True I did fix the smell by changing several variables, but the filter was the root problem. No filter let debris in, debris clogged drain, excess stagnant water got smelly and was splashing around in car. There may be other ac smells, but it mine was caused by the filter. The smells are not taken away by the filter, clogs are prevented by the filter.

Awwww I see now. Guess you must live in an extra dusty/debris area. Don't think Toyota would consider making the cabin air filter standard based on a few area's conidition.
