I get it... but barring any empirical data that says draining 3.900 quarts will provide longer, more reliable engine life than 3.884 quarts, I say the time is wasted... Maybe I have an understanding of the fact that everything in contact with the oil is going to have a film of the oil on it, and there will be small collections of oil in various points... maybe in a perfect world you could get all the oil out of the oil pan with extraordinary patience, but you're not going to get it out of the engine without some positive or negative pressure system connected. I've never personally broken down an engine into its component parts but I'm willing to bet that anyone who has, found oil in the engine somewhere.

I say instead of bickering back and forth, next time I change my oil, I'll switch from an oil pan to a measuring cup after 5 minutes. I bet there will be more than half an ounce after 25 more minutes. I also have a feeling if you did a UOA of the first 5 minutes and one from the last 25, the last 25 would be considerably dirtier. I've seen some pretty dirty chunks fall out after 5 minutes.

Like I said, I'm not arguing Jiffy Lube any more. Its your car. Just don't read all the horror stories about wrong fluids and such. I'll continue getting a cheaper, and better(however marginally it may be) oil change.

and that is what keeps me from trying to change my own oil. Where do I recycle it? I assume an oil change pan can be had at any oil parts store. I'm tempted to try and do it, but this is me, and I would prolly mess it up somehow.

pour it in a jug from the last oil change and take it down to kragen

Maybe you should change your oil more often then... so instead of waiting 30 min, wait 15 and change it twice as often... Win, win.

No...you still don't get it. It's not time wasted because while it's draining you are doing something else like....cutting the grass, surfing internet porn, watching football, eating pizza, trimming the hedges. The list goes on. Any car guy you meet let's his oil drain as long as possible.
