I have owned over 25 cars in my lifetime. Some for a month or 2. The longest was a 88sr5 Toyota truck for 16 years. At 10,000 miles/year I put on the yaris I expect to keep it 20 years.

In my case, it would depend on when we decide to start having kids. Then again, that's what we have his brand new car for (bought a week before mine, and has less than 6000 miles on it, whereas mine is approaching 14,000). If I'm carting the kids around much, I'd probably have to trade in my '09 3dr for a 5dr model at least (not interested in the sedan at all). Too much of a hassle to to get into the backseat. But after having had seat heaters installed on the front seats yesterday, and the anticipated power sunroof after I get my tax return, we may keep the car till it dies (or at least 5-7 years anyway).

On the pro side: no need to worry about door locks and window locks, since they can't do any of that in a 3-door car from the back. The door opening is much bigger on a 3-door car than any of the doors on a 4-door car, so I found it actually easier to get the baby car seat in and out of the car on mine. Sometimes, depending on who's has been sitting on the passenger seat on the xD I will have to slide the seat forward as well, for the baby seat to fit in. The only hassle that I have is caused by the fact that I park the car on the right side of the garage, so I can't get him in and out on the right, since I'm too close to the wall. So I have to stop the car outside and do the loading and unloading. My wife has easy access to the baby, but she has to squeeze in and out of her car because of the proximity to the left wall ![]() I love my 3-door: less weight, less moving parts, less things that can break and so on
