I'll probably go back to old faithful Audison. If PPI cannot come up with their 5 channel phantom amplifier in the next couple months, I'll move forward with either Audison SR5s or Hertz HDP-5 amplifiers. PPI has been promising that amplifier for two years now. At the pricing available to me, I need to wait to see if that can actually happen versus paying nearly twice as much for a Hertz piece.

I'm resetting the component system with an Audison Voce 3-way. I was thinking of a combination of Voce and Mille...but I really don't need to go all out...especially seein as I'm not going to compete for a few years.

Having talked with the team captain of Team Hybrids, they completely realize that if Elettromedia wanted to put together a competition team, HAT's rule in the competition lanes would be at an end. That realization made me chuckle. It only goes to prove that at the top levels, it's all in the tune...I know, I've seen the tuning techniques from the too players in the car audio world. Phasing, phasing, phasing!

The only DD piece I have left is that 4 channel. Damned good piece. I want to unload it to a good home eventually.

I've seen in many forums that the Mids that I use HERTZ HL-70 are well known to be a "not so good speaker"

Like SQcomp mentions above... it's all about tuning. I'm not saying HAT is not as good as they say, but some day I will have a pair of HAT L3-SE's to test and compare, for now the HERTZ HL-70 will continue to make every body wonder how such a small speaker, installed so low in the kick area sounds so good up front.

As with my IASCA run using the Digital Designs amplifiers, they also were thought to be not so good for SQ. Apparently I pissed off quite a few "important" people on the management see of the team by using that brand. I also showed them very wrong.

Bottom line? "Run what you brung". I could care less what brand of equipment anyone is using anymore. I might not like the brand but if it sounds good...it sounds good. There are many MANY different ways to get got the same destination.

I recall a vehicle during last year's SBN that was all home audio off brand type speakers. The guy was a real cool cat. He let me audition the car and we talked for an hour or so about his sound, what he liked, what I liked and what we didn't like.

I had Scott Buwalda sit in the vehicle. He came out saying, "We have to get that guy on the team." Now...why is that? Not because he was an amazing fabricator or was running miraculous speakers...it turns out the kid tuned the car well. What Scott wanted to do was to eliminate competition by bringing him onto the team (ultimately). I recently talked to him and congratulated him on not falling for the trap.

Reiteration...the tune is what will set you apart from everyone else. With enough flexibility one can make similar speakers sound very much alike...so much so that you won't be able to hear a difference.

Derick - let me know when you have a few dollars to spend on some L3s or L3SEs. I'll try to find some at a steal. If it makes our collective point, Jeremy Weaver won the Amateur world championship using 1st gen L3s. Damned fine sounding XB! One of the very best I've heard.

Sq we both commented on a post about a week ago pertaining to brand and speakers. People are always gonna say " that brand is trash " just because there sisters boyfriends brothers cousin ran that crap and he blew it inna week ". Which ultimately the gains were set incorrectly they were using speaker wire for Power/Ground. I use a few off brands and i've heard the whole your stuff is crap till i turn it on and put there 2k system to shame.

Of all the things...proper setup is a graduation from beginner level systems into pro levels.

So many people still don't get it.

Sq how could you ruin DD's image of being really damn good in SPL only. Now they're just as good in SQL as well !! Loll

There's a huge misconception if you buy brand #A that it's automatically going to sound better than Budget Brand #B. It's all in the installation. Now put them in the exact same professional install there's still a chance you wouldn't be able to pick out the brands.

Now the quality and the longevity of Brand #B is hopefully wayyy better. If not why did we just spend $200. Vs something that does the same thing for $60.

It would be fun to see you use some budget speakers in that install Sq and change the brand tags.

Budget speakers...those Voces are budget. Well...at least compared to the Legatia SE line they are. :)

They're less than half the cost. Betcha they'll sound just as good though. That being said, HAT is overcharging for their speakers anyway. I know, I have all the pricing tiers memorized.

Honestly, if one wants to buy HAT stuff, buy it used. You will get a good speaker for much more of a bargain. There are enough people out there being snowed to find used stuff around here and there. I sold all my HAT gear within 24-48 hours of posting it.

...that being said, I still have a pair of the L1 Pro SEs that need to be rebuilt. I think I'll use them for target practice, video tape it and post it on DIYMA. THAT should ruffle some feathers.

As for the brand comparison...with speakers you can differentiate easily enough. Amplifiers are able to be differentiated BUT that isn't due to the "power of the Watt"... There is no such thing. A Watt is a Watt. That being said, the route the signal must travel through on the amplifier will change the sound. Depending on the changes, sometimes you'll hear the difference. Most of what we're hearing is due to internal crossovers and/or the actual amplitude difference of the signal. A proper double blind A to B test has to be painstakingly setup to measure.

Think of it this way, is a single HP greater from a Chevy engine or a Ford engine? Neither, they're both the same measure.

I made an experiment today, I put my old Pioneer Tweeters and tune them until they sounded as good as the others I have!

Just for the record: my tweeters are x-over at 10 kHz so there is not much stress on them, these little puppies do just fine! and...

you know me, I always want to get the most of the knowledge and experience, I'm going to try to get more "Width" taking advantage of the smaller size. I know I may sacrifice "Depth" a little bit... lets see what happens!

Remember...

Imma give these a run during the summer. Soon as i get all my fishing gear in order..

Also wanna mess around with some 5.25's in some pvc enclosures on the rear dash. Just to mess a round a bit.

Pivot point 1" silk dome tweeter for accurate treble
Mounting kit for the tweeter allows the tweeter to focus the sound in the needed direction
Convertible mounting system allows the speakers to be mounted as a separate component system or a coaxial speaker
Rigid tooled basket with a stainless steel finish
Heavy motor structure with protective boot increases the power handling
PBX custom grille included protects your speakers and makes them look great
External 12dB 2-way crossover network
3 ohms impedance
High temperature voice coil
Top-mount depth: 2-1/2"
Sensitivity: 91 dB

^ We used to push the Maxxsonics lines (MB Quart) and Powerbass. We're heavy into PPI now and Digital Designs. Being a mouthpiece for the shop, take a look at the PPI P900.4...Since PPI is still absent with their 5 channel, I'm having to use two of these for my left and right amplification (as a 3 channel).

Whatever you choose...let's take some time (you, me and Derick) to make sure you have this tuned as well as you can.

Looks like the RMS is under rated. I wouldn't mind trying them out. Depends what kinda price you can get them for. (or you'd be able to sell them to me for )

I'm probably gonna sell off my current 4 channel and my Headunit. Bored with everything already. Prob get a Pioneer Headunit, the one that lets you DJ on it..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfH9ZW25tLA

Then the pvc enclosure things are going to be a demo/test project cause i've had a few people ask what they can put in there boats that won't get wet, rust, sound like crap...etc....So imma make a lil sumtin sumtin..Patent Pending haha...But i want that 4 channel to push some 5.25's and a set of Bullet tweeters on the Rear Deck. Looking at some Soundstream with the Tarantula grill.(Just going for looks on that ) Have to make it look hellafied to impress the boaters. I'll deff need some tuning advice, Since Derick has done something similar in the past it'll be nice to get some input. Also a boat is a whole different ball game.

Shoot me a Pm on the prices of that amp. I may start to take offers on my current amp, But i really don't want to get anything started till May or so. Wife will get annoyed if i'm working on more than one project. Loll I'll get the whole " wasting Money" Pep talk. So for right now FIshing !!

I got one too. I'm not doing anything about it. It's not an issue for me.
