First I just want to say I'm a happy man :)
and I'm very sorry to create such a chain reaction... Well... 2nd, I would like to thank everybody for the event it was great! I just got the score sheets today! "Thank you" x100000000000 This was my first event but not the last one. (even though I don't consider my car a competition car, more a selfish commuter car that sounds great) I started this adventure in 2009 when I wanted to add a subwoofer to my OEM Head Unit in my little Yaris, and didn't had a clue about Sound Quality, x-over points, T/A, image and stage, etc, etc. I learned everything by trial and error, so just been at this event is a big thing for me. A couple of years ago I contacted xxxxxxxx, I asked him that I wanted to listen to a SQ-car because I was trying to accomplish some thing I didn't had an idea of what Sound Quality in a car was all about. He put together a few meets and we had a lot of fun and I learned a bunch of stuff. Thanks xxxxxxxx you are a good friend. I appreciate the feedback from the judges specially about how my system sounds and how I should use RTA to make it sound better :) I did have a issue, and I'm not blaming anyone or the system, it's nobody's fault and like a good friend said... you got to play the game... -"it's about the size of the judges", (with all the respect the we deserve) as soon I met them I knew I wasn't going to get an accurate reading of my stage, but I'm fine with that, thats the way it is. A friend of mine told me "that's why Mids in a-pillars are good" so you don't have that kind of issues. -But like I said before I really appreciate the feedback of the judges in particular on how to use RTA as a tuning tool, (all my system has been tuned by ear only) and for the road, so I knew where I was going to get hit, and that was the purpose of my trip, to really see where I was compare to professionals like you. I was afraid to go inside one of your cars and go... "Wow! what did you do to make it sound like that" it's like the finish line at the 100 meters, there's the first place, second and so on until the last guy crosses the line... that doesn't means that the last guy is slow by any chance. I would like to thank you guys for letting me hear your systems and share your expertise, it was too bad I had to leave early and didn't had the chance to listen to all the cars at the show. (next time... do it on a Saturday) lol Also I would like thank yyyyyyyyy for taking the time to sit in my car and check my system, his input... same as the judges was "PRICELESS" and what you guys do for these kind of events, I bet there is so much going on, I wish I could do one around here, that would be so cool. Here are my score sheets that I will hang on the wall with a big happy face: Thank you everybody. keep up the good work and if there is anything I can help, just let me know... Derick ![]() ![]() D.

Notice the scores on imaging and linearity? They need to give you feedback as to why you scored like that.
Again, the rules permit you to be in the amateur class. Why they put you in pro/am on your very first competition is beyond me. That class is for peeps who have played the game for a few years. The next time to enter SQc, circle amateur. This is absolutely the highest you should compete a right now...IMHO. The following, I will say as someone who has walked the path before... We can do better than 206. Also know that this is a local show with amateur judges at best. Hell, they didn't even write the name down of the judge on the IASCA sheet. I know your vehicle can do 230+. I know, I've done it.

one judge said that the center image was to the left, sure if he blocks the left Mid, I know for a fact that the center image shifts to the right. and I remember what you wrote to me... that is why Mids in a-pillars are good, so this is not an issue any more... "Play the game" judge #2 tells me that left is about 1 inch inside the a-pillar, OK, at this point I want to cut my veins... and/or my ears are not working properly... but then I think, there is a tweeter beyond outside the a-pillar so what's going on... again I bet the difference in height was about 6-8 inches and with big legs and foot blocking the Mid,... yes the left side of the stage may sound like inside the a-pillar. now I maybe crazy but at the sweet spot and not blocking the left Mid... the Left isn't inside the a-pillar... and the center is not towards the right... that is why I had one of the best guys at the show (that happens to be my height) try the sweet spot inside the Yaris and he was very impressed! he also explain to me a little bit how to level the EQ using RTA. I know about the "Class" issue, I read the rules but they didn't let me choose in the class I wanted to participate. It was funny one guy complained that he was set as amateur by mistake! I'm sure 206 is under rated, specially with the issues I described above. Now I have to learn how to RTA, buy a mic and get a good software! and... It's not for competition, it's for me, in the pursuit of the BEST SOUND for "my self" D.

Now, tell us about the criticism on your mid bass and sub. Does the enclosure unload on you? When they say the mid bass is bloated, that is an easy fix with the P-99 between 125-400 Hz. Look at dialing the 250-ish Hz freqs down by 3 dB and listen to the difference in "bloating".

Back again to the sub...I'm not surprised about the criticism about it not having sub bass presence. Even Buwalda's G35 takes a nose dive under 30 Hz. The Jurassic Lunch track killed his car at CES in 2011. I know...I'm the one that did it.

Cool...
This is the part where you need to walk in like a boss next time... You are in amateur class Derick. These ass clowns DO NOT get to choose a class for you. This is a damn good example of bad management of the show. At the next show, circle amateur class. They don't choose for you.

^i think this is the most simple reaction. I completely agree. Congrats D!
Why & s7 - The lame excuses are exactly why I started digging. What they don't like (who does) is criticism. They are correct...I was not there. But I do know, and have done, a much better job at the shows I've promoted and put on. Heck, I was even informed that Kim Sabourin (IASCA HQ) had to get invoked to get the scoresheets...if that says anything.

It says a ton. And is totally absurd. As is the fact that it was obviously told to the loser to publicly apologize on the thread for being a loser.

I'd better not look at the thread...I'll be tempted to rub salt in the wounds...
The lesson should be for all prospective and new competitors, make sure you research what you're getting into in regards of competition. Ask people that have been there and done that. I'm not trying to step onto a soap box BUT... There are definitely people out there that will step all over you to get what they want. I've seen it at both the local and international level in regards to SQ competition. What does this have to do with D's PA competition? I'd be willing to lay bets not only did the local shop have a car/customer in the amateur class that wanted little competition but also had judges that weren't trained properly and also from the shop itself. This is called "trophy harvesting". This is completely unethical and morally reprehensible. I was even "jockeyed" into being in the Pro/Am class last year to insure Team Hybrids' domination on the West Coast. As a good team player I followed direction...much to my shaggrin. In my case, I had to recuse myself multiple times from judging classes with competitors that were on the same team as I was. I did that to hold myself above the fray. I held a handful of competitions and judged in multiple IASCA single and double point events. I spent my own coin to go to INAC/SBN to see the ins and outs of the world championships. Later I even competed in said championships. When you look at that thread we're talking about, know that most of the people talking crap have never even left the local area, let alone ever heard a real championship vehicle. The best example of a "championship vehicle" at the PA show was Julian Ridi's Honda Fit...but even that piece of "loveliness" has big weaknesses. Listen to these words: If you want to compete, know that there are unscrupulous people out there that will lie, cheat and steal to get a friggin' stupid trophy. What's even worse is the people that know it happens and don't take a stand to do anything about it. These are moral cowards. I can drop bombs with names but I'll refrain...for now. The silver lining is that there are people out there that really want to compete for sound and nothing else. I reserve the right to do so at any time (re-join competition) OR to help anyone who lives and breathes SQ sound. Ask and I'll give anyone some really good information on sound, theories, practical application and overall strategy to win in the SQ competitions. I've seen it at the highest level...in other words, been there done that. Learn from me.
