How long will you own your Yaris?

Until such time as you were ever so slightly rear-ended and your car blew you to pieces... Design flaw on this one, having the gas tank too close to the rear without reinforcing anything...

I think I'd pass on any Pinto, but that's me...

Here, once again in an Internet forum, we have someone who inserts herself into a thread half-cocked. For your edification, the idea was that I would keep a car that ran good and was in good shape overall. It wasn't a promotion for the Ford Pinto or any other specific car.

The idea came from my post where i questioned the idea of keeping theYaris for life or a very long time,i was just trying to understand why some one would want to keep driving a tired old out of date economy car for 30+yrs,I used the Pinto as an example and i think Devil girl was just responding to my example of the Ford Pinto as the 30+ year old economy car and some of the unforeseen problems that can arise over time...

If it held up that would free your money for other perhaps more interesting pursuits. 35 mpg doesnt get old. Unless there are other cars getting 50 mpg...

I had a '72 Pinto, never worried about being rear ended 'cause I seldom if ever used the brakes. Drove a Pinto wagon for a while as supervisor for a maintenance company. The only complaint with it was the boss telling me that every time he saw me on the road I was flying too close to the ground.

Movie stuff, cars don't blow up that easily, they're more prone to catch on fire. Even that doesn't happen often ... without some effort ;) I thought they recalled Pintos with that problem anyway?

We had a Pinto in the family for 15 years, and you know it was the most reliable car of the lot ... of course it didn't blow up or catch on fire once. But unibody frames don't rust very well ...

That said, who cares ... I ride a motorcycle most of the time anyway. I'm pretty sure I'd rather be rearended in a pinto than on that sportster. But it's just crazy, I guess I like to live life that way ...



The Yaris is fine, and I'll keep it around until it makes economic sense to replace.

Had my black 3dr Yaris RS since new in late 2005, first RS in the area actually. Had no problems with it, done 175000km on the highway. However, Ive started looking around to for change. Lost all confidence in Toyota and am seriously looking at 2010 Golf TDi as the replacement.

Ive REALLY enjoyed the Yaris experience and if Toyota ever sold it to another manufacturer I might return one day.

So I guess the media's recent Toyota attack has worked on you then? Also, VW reliability does not equal Toyota reliability, from what I've heard...
