IMO if everyone owned a car that got 25mpg city and 30-35 mpgh we would be fine. It's these people who drive trucks and SUV's who go offroading once a year or they want to look cool. I think they should tax people based on where they live for the vehicle they are driving. like if you live in a city, you pay tax on a truck or suv or anything under a certian gas mileage.

i think it's enough that those people pay about $1000 more per year in gas. we don't need to go all communist on them.

Considering how much of an impact imported oil has had on our deficit recently, it's really only a matter of time before we see a significant tax increase to offset that and encourage more efficient use of the resource.

Right now everyone's treating the US economy with kid gloves, but when the global market turns around you'll see a much different story.

So what I'm saying is you're right, economic factors will drive people to change soon enough.
