Get a CB antenna, such as a FireStik, up to a 4-foot model is perfectly safe to mount on the roof as long as you get the light-weight spring, not the medium-heavy-weight one. You'll need to punch a 1/2" hole in somewhere in your car, but you'll get astronomical radio reception then with a CB to AM/FM splitter box.
The CB antenna wiring will be higher quality and more sealed (signal-wise) than the stock radio antenna, too, so the signal will stay clearer of interference.
