I don't know about other markets, but in the US, all manual transmission sedans have tachs as well as all power package equipped models.

I don't think that is 100% correct. It wasn't based on transmission. Only on the power package.

Yep, the asinine TPMS system is a US government requirement. Those transmitters have nonreplaceable batteries that will die in a few years, too.

Yeah the battery thing I knew about.

So ridiculous. TPMS adds significant cost, adds complexity, and is designed to fail after a few years.

Sounds like something only the government and car companies would think is a good idea. Sure doesn't serve the consumer, in fact it scams them.

Those auto company lobbyist must have lined a lot of pockets to get this shit to be made manditory.

Good looking out CT with the link to Ebay that helps alot, I ll be purchasing one next week. But what did you mean about the milage change, I dont think its necessary to do that because you are not changing the computer to the car, but then again I might be wrong, holla at me, with new info if you can.

There have been other threads about changing out speedometers. The mileage seems to be stored in there, not in the ECU.

Like YarisHilton mentioned above, the odometer readings are stored in the cluster, not in the ECM (the car's main computer).

My '07 has a tach and no power package. And every MT sedan I've seen has it.
The MT liftback, on the other hand, doesn't.

My 07 Sedan has no tach and no power package. My 08 Sedan has a tach and the power package. Does your Yaris have cruise control? If it does, is it the OEM cruise or the Rostra Cruise.

I assume yours is an automatic? I'm pretty positive that ALL Manual SEDANS have a tach.

And no, I don't have cruise. Factory installed cruise only comes with the power package.

No. Tachs came with S packages or power packages. Sedan or LB.

There were many threads about this back in 2007. A lot of MT folks were on here complaining that their MT didn't have a tach when the automatic's did.

can a tachometer gauge cluster be installed into a vehicle that didnt come with one?

I have an automatic 07 lift back. It doe not have a tach.

I have been looking around the forum trying to find out if I can replace my instrument cluster with one including a tachometer. would it be plug and play or would i have to wire the tachometer in.

If anyone has done this you help would be greatly appreciated.
