Well, I ended-up with some Pirelli Winter Carving snow tires, 175/65R-14, and a set of 14" steelies. Total from TireRack.com was $465.12. Thanks again to everyone for helping me out. Can't wait for winter to see how they perform!

fyi, quite a bit smaller than your rolling stock...you'll sit 1/2" lower than your oem 185-65-15's

perfectly safe, but might hit ice/snow chunks more steadily

Actually, stocks are 185/60-15. That's why my car came with, and that's what TireRack.com shows as stock. The 175/65-14's are the stock size for 14" rims. So it should sit the same.
