dry filters guarantee you wont have a problem.
dont know how true it is but Ive had a couple MAFs cleaned during servicing and was told that some oils actually burn and coat the hot element type sensors which permanently damage them. Ive removed all but the paper element in my Yaris.

The netting attached to the upper part of the housing inside is a charcole filter.... I have removed mine as well, and added two 1" holes below the air filter (lower box) facing the headlight housing... nice growl, and small improvement in the bottom kick. Not to mention, the car actually feels a little smoother when going thru the RPMs.

Any tips or tricks as to how to get the charcoal filter out? Mine seems to either be stuck or is riveted in place with plastic rivets.
