Ok, ok, I guess I'll add to this also. Bought mine back in Sept. and been getting 35-38 mpg while driving 95% hiway at 75mph. What I have noticed now since we have the cold...I've been letting the car warm up for about 10-15 minutes before I leave to and from work and I've been getting crap for mileage. Don't know if it's the cold (this factor was mentioned here a few threads back) and/or letting the car idle for a short period of time. When I was down to the last two bars, my trip would be around 300 miles. Now, it's like 250! We'll see on my next fill up since I've been going 65 mph on the hiway for a test to see if there is a difference.
Oh, something else I noticed! The cold snaps we had last week with the 0 degree temps.......when I turned the key to "start" position and let the key go to fall back into "on" position, the starter was still trying to turn over for like 2-3 seconds longer as if the key was stuck in the "start" position. We are back in the 20 degree temps (for now) and it has not done it since. Just thought I would add that also.

This car has a "crank hold" function which will basically keep on cranking the engine until a certain amount of time has passed or the engine starts up, nothing to worry about :)

I made a Spread Sheet! It seems the sooner you pump your gas, the better MPG you get!

Whelp that means that every time you start your car (every day for work or what ever) you are getting 0 (zero) mpg until you leave... so for 10-15 mins of the car running you are going no where and putting zero miles on your car for 10-15 mins of gas...
so decide if you want to get into a cold car and drive for 10-15 mins until heat starts coming out and get better gas mileage or get into a warm cozy car and be comfortable for the whole time your in the car.

Who really expects to get the same gas mileage if you leave your car burning fuel for 10-15 mins going no where 5 days a week?

Why don’t you do this.. Lets assume that you drive 60 mph for 10 mins.. 1 min a mile.. 10 miles.. If you fill up Sunday night and you fill up Friday evening and you warmed up your car every morning for 10 mins.. That would be 50 more miles you gave away just to warm up your car. Add that to your calculation.

there are extra factors as far as rpm and the actual amount of fuel burned but this would be a reasonable amount to add in to help you add in fuel your wasting in your drive way. This is the general idea of city/hwy mpg.. City you stop a lot, sitting in traffic, your car is running and your going now where putting, zero miles on while burning fuel.

I think I just put some sort of reasoning to your 50mpg drop.

well, Yaris engine takes a lot of time to warm up. the higher the engine revs, the faster it warms up. Now, imagine leaving a cold engine to run on idle for 15min. What happens ? The engine runs most of this time cold, thus consuming more gaz, polluting more (as the catalytic converter is still cold and doesn't reduce any emissions) and finally it runs with colder oil and that means poor lubrication and more wear. The best thing is to let it run say a few seconds then start driving and shift at a moderate rpm - say 2500. I also use to turn off the fan while the cold engine light is still on, although at 0F it gets a little cold inside

Well, first let me say thank you to All who responded to my fuel loss problem.
Go4th pretty much made it clear as to where all my gas was going. The reason for letting the car warm up was not for my benefit so I would be all cozy and warm for the ride to work but for the cars benefit. Hey, screw it....I'll just get into the cold car. It don't bother me. Isn't it not good to start your vehicle up in cold cold weather and just take off? Actually, I heard that you can do that but you would have to drive at a slow rate for about a mile or so for the vehicle to "warm up". Maybe that's what I'll do next time.
Again, thnx to Go4th and hystria for your feedback.

Yes, it is a good idea to keep a low RPM for the first mile or so - however too low RPM is not good either, try not to drive at less than 1500 RPM - engine cold or warmed up. This will help the fuel consumption. To get the best mileage with this car, it's better to cruise at 1500 RPM and to shift at 2500 RPM.

One more thing just to understand better the Yaris engine... Yes it can deliver very good fuel consumption... but only when the car is not fully loaded and especially if it is driven very smooth. Otherwise it will eat almost as much gasoline as a bigger engine. And sadly it is not the most fuel efficient on the highway as the engine keep reving at 3000rpm or so

So that's why I'm losing fuel......must be the weight I'm gaining from those darn donuts I'm eating on my way into work in the mornings!
(chuckle,chuckle......)
