Did you measure? Also consider that the packaging will add to the width/height/depth of the actual range too.

I once fit a Craftsman 5 drawer mechanics rollaway chest and 7 drawer top chest in the back. Both in boxes. The guy at the store was in serious doubt if it would fit.

Yes, I measured all the dimensions of the range and also the dimensions of the back of my LB with the rear seats folded down flat. I think I could get it in there with the tallest part of the range poking out the back of the car about 9 or 10 inches, but then the hatch would be wide open and I don't think it would be safe to drive, even if I could tie down the hatch.

I guess I was hoping that there would be a way to gain another half inch to inch clearance in the vertical dimension in the back, perhaps by removing something. Obviously I could remove both rear seats entirely, but is there anything less drastic that would buy me about an inch?

I brought home a packaged book case from Ikea last week - removed the front passenger and right rear headrests, put the front passenger seat full forward and maximum recline, laid the rear seat right forward. The book case, a full-height "Billy" unit, fit from tight against the glove box lid to within a couple of inches of the hatch window, but it went in with the hatch shut.

Not quite as impressive a cargo carrier as my old '76 VW Rabbit, but pretty good considering that it's a much smaller car.
