Scott, when you put them in Crashy, could you take some pics of the OEM seat covers and foam? I know they are glued together, but I'd like to see a picture to get an idea on how WELL they are glued down. Thanks!

I don't think so. They don't get hot enough to do thermal damage and the adhesive doesn't seem to be the type that will leave residue if removed.

My wife and I just did a quick Starbucks run, and she could not have been happier with how toasty her seat gets. So, she gives this mod a thumbs-up.

I just ordered one of the waterproof kits from that same website (warmseats.com) for Crashy. I am just going to do her driver's seat. I just pulled and prepped the seat in less than 30 minutes, so I will be including that process in the DIY:

Awesome! Can't wait to see your finished DIY on the OEM seats! This would be a nice little project to tackle, especially in this cold northern climate! Brrrrrrr!!

The guy at the auto upholstery shop showed me photos of cars where the seats caught fire from these things including cars that came new with them. Cars like Audi's and BMW's. He urged me not to do it. But seeing CTScott doing it makes me tempted cuz it's so damn cold here!

The modern ones use carbon instead of NiChrome heating elements and are much lower wattage. The warmseats.com ones are indeed carbon ones, and very low wattage (each pad is about 35 watts on the high setting). They also have a thermostat within the pad that limits the surface temp of the pad to 120F.
