They are definitely whiter than the OEM ones. You really don't need gloves, as you can handle them by the metal base. I think the relatively short life is due to the heat that they produce and the size of the filament.
I change them by popping the plastic bumper clips along the top of the bumper and the ones at the edge of the wheel well. Then, you can grab the bumper at the wheel well and pull straight forward to pop the bumper ends out of their holders. That gives you enough room to be able to remove the headlight mounting bolts and lift the headlights out to change them. Some people do it by squeezing their hand behind the headlight, but It's hard to make sure that the gasket is properly reseated that way.
My latest set came in about a week with the free Amazon shipping. I am waiting for my new horn (Stebel TM80 Magnum horns) to come before I install them, so I only have to pop the bumper loose once.
