What is the most economic speed for Yaris?

from what I've seen from my yaris. Its the acceleration that eats up the gas. ONce your at a certain cruising speed the gas milage is about the same unless you go very fast. Even then. ON the highway going at a steady 75 I get over 40 miles to the gallon.

foober puts it pretty well - my ScanGauge confirms that acelleration lowers your gas mileage substantially.

We drove up to Seattle in dry weather on Tues. at an overall 39.5 MPG doing 70-75 most of the way (very light traffic for once). The problem with going 60 or under is that you get stuck behind the big trucks which throw rocks back at you. Less chance of that in the fast lane.

We pretty much get the EPA estimated mileage, and are very happy with that.

Ditto. I agree with foober.

If you want to get nit-picky, 110km/hr against-the-wind and 130km/hr with-the-wind seems like a good cruising speed on the highway. Once you get it up to speed, it likes to cruise.

I haven't found any efficient way to drive it in the city to optimize fuel consumption. With my old Civic, light-footing it around the city returned awesome fuel consumption, while aggressive driving will cause the fuel consumption to increase (get worst) by whopping 40%. In the Yaris, there's not a huge difference between conservative driving vs aggressive driving. With the Yaris, the difference in consumption (aggressive vs conservative) is more like 20%. Some might think 20% increase is a lot, but not so if you ever witness me painting the streets with my rubber.

I think I'm with you Pars. As long as I'm getting over 30mpg, I'll keep beating everybody at the stop lights & going 80 on the highway. Besides, around here if you try to go 55, you'll be an oily spot on the road!

i also agree with harsh acceleration.

hmmm, i guess the cross and head-winds here in Sac are a killer. i can't drive 75 mph and still manage to get 40 mpg.

I'm sure a few extra mpg could be had by keeping the speeds well under 75mph, but the 2mpg isn't worth being harassed in the slow lane when you could be making tracks in the fast lane or at least avoid getting pelted by rocks when the trucks are overtaking (It's usually when they change lane that the stones get kicked-up).

The country hwy are the best for slow speed cruising (50mph)....at those speeds, my old 98 Civic could get better fuel consumption then my new Yaris, but at faster speeds, the Yaris gets better consumption.

for me, i can at least get 45 mpg if i constantly drive 55 mph. but when i drive 75 mph constantly, it'll drope to 35 - 38 mpg.

Wow. I've never been able to get over 38mpg (US), even when a goodly portion of the mileage was obtained from the 55mph cruise. Currently, I'm getting 32mpg from aggressive winter driving in mixed hwy/city. (1.5L 5dr manual). I expect my mileage to go back to 35 mpg once the weather gets better and the stations dump the winterized gas.
