I have an auto and I get 36-39 extreme cold winter and last summer I got 44-48. With this springish weather I've been getting into the 40's again which seems very nice after a long winter.
Worst tank ever was the dealer tank. I drove the car HARD for proper break in. Hammered the bugger leaving the dealership and all the 45 mile drive home over very big hills. I literally let speed drop to about 30 at the base of the hills then mashed the gas and accelerated the full length of the hill, then would engine brake down the back side. Over and over. That whole tank I drove that way plus accelerated hard away from each stop light and stop sign. Still got 35.7 mpg! Amazing little cars! Best tank ever is 48.0 mpg with many over 45. R2 |

Anyway, I only got mine at the beginning of November so it's been all Winter driving so far. This is the first car I've actually been watching FE and I am getting 37MPG over the 13,000 miles I've had it. I look forward to Summer when FE should go up. I keep the tires at about 35PSI, BTW. |

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm The key nowadays to getting good ring seal is producing enough pressure to get the rings to seat EARLY. Its a "limited time opportunity". Suffice it to say my engine has produced excellent oil analysis results that are consistent with a much quicker break in. Also my auto Yaris will produce fuel economy numbers that are competitive with the manuals so I didn't hurt it too bad! I'd do it again for sure. All my new vehicles get the same treatment. Remember, everything that comes from a car company isn't necessarily from the engineers-it has to make it past the lawyers and bean counters first! R2 |
