For remaking the thread? New members do register quite often atm it seems.
For using Premium? Lol, gas prices don't effect me.

I just use it because I know it is 100 percent gasoline, it bugs me that the other gas has the other corn crap in it. It feels like the vehicle burns the premium quicker but thats about it.

around here all gas is 10% ethanol (corn crap). In response to the question, we run regular in the Yaris (Shell if possible), and I run Shell V-Power in the WRX (and nothing else if I can help it)

ethanol burns at a 50% less ratio than gasoline. but, it will not detonate in the chamber. so, you're only 95% efficient running any gasoline other than 100% in the US.
second...the rating of octane is not how efficient it is but the burn rate or detonation prevention of the gasoline being used. 87 octane is 87% less likely to detonate at a specific compression than 91 octane which is 91% less likely to detonate. 91 octane burns slower allowing for higher compression or more advanced spark....hence the higher octane rating of performance cars and such. it has NOTHING to do with fuel economy...and actually 93 octane is cheaper to produce than 87. |

Lower octane burns faster and makes more torque. High perf. engines use higher octane because they have to in order to prevent pre-detonation of the charge. They are still running the lowest octane they can get away with. If you use higher octane than you need, the charge burns slower, so more of it is still burning on the exhaust stroke = more strain on the engine, less power at the wheels, and more of your charge wasted burning in the exhaust manifold.

So 87 with ethanol is better?

If you're in an area that has 10% ethanol in all gas grades, go with the cheapest gas.
Otherwise try and find a place that sells ethanol free gasoline and stick with that. |

+Super store sells gas frequently meaning their fuel is flushed alot and fresh. +They give you about 10% back of what you spend in in-store funds. Good for deodorants and what not.

I use regular 87 10% ethanol (CT). Premium won't do anything extra for you. My fussiness is that I only use top tier gas which is either Shell or Mobil in my area. I also heard that Chevron is the best but it's not available here.
