Is it just me or is the Yaris engine THAT noisey?

Now that I think about it both the sonic non-turbo and fiesta use costly, pain in the butt timing belts and it's always been said they are quieter in operating than a timing chain as the Yaris has.

Noise suppression is indeed one of oils' primary job duties. Also cleansing, cooling, and off course providing a microscopic barrier between mating surfaces.

I actually find mine pretty quiet up to about 3K RPM (I once turned the ignition by accident when it was already idling). Also keep in mind that because it only outputs 106 horsepower at the crank, the gears are shorter. Go over 60 MPH and it's bound to scream a little.

The Yaris has more engine noise than the echo (same engine).

The stock yaris intake is simpler than the echo intake. I think that is where most of the noise comes from.

+1 on that, mine is pretty buzzy under load and it does sound like intake noise.

overall, yes, this engine is on the loud side. quiet when not loaded, but under any kind of load the noise is definitely starts to come through. I find that I have to adjust the radio volume more often than in other cars I had. But it's ok, it's not too bad.

Anybody know which brand of oil is best at reducing noise? I'd like to try it out the next time I do an oil change.
