well, about 5 mpg worse is not "about the same" in my book, but your new corolla does look very nice. good luck.

The hwy mpg is the same, it's 2mpg different with city driving according to Toyota Canada.

2009 Corolla S specs:
City/Hwy/Combined L/100km: 7.4/5.6/6.6
City/Hwy/Combined mpg: 38/50/43

2007 Toyota Yaris specs:
City/Hwy L/100km: 7.0/5.6/6.3*
City/Hwy mpg: 40/50/45*

Diff: +0.3 L/100km or 2mpg
