My new 2010 Yaris seems slow
It seems slow off the line, reason i say this because my Fiance 2008 Yaris is fast of the line it seems like i have to really push on the pedal to get it going...
Anyone have any ideas what could cause this? so i can take it to the dealer and see if they can check if there is anything wrong with it i use 91 octane Fuel if that means anything. Thank You! |

The engine is designed for 89 octane. Using 91 will not:
-Yield significant power gains, if at all -Get you better fuel economy -detonate properly (the compression ratio for use of 91 is different then what the 1nz-fe is made for) Is your car auto or manual? |

Oh man, maybe that explains the marginal gas mileage I've been getting since I bought mine last year. I had a coupon for $0.50 off per gallon, so I "splurged" and filled it up with 89. Goes like stink in first, gets up to highway speeds with the quickness.

Maybe the trottle body needs a cleaning . Try a few tanks with Techron and 93 octane from Shell or other major gas company . If you do , let us know if any improvement .

Or the OP can just take out the intake and clean the throttle body and save money from repair shops.

1nzfe engine is designed for 87 octane....not 89
what wheels/tires are on the car? a heavier setup would make it feel sluggish maybe check the spark plugs? air filter? maf?

I blame the e-throttle...
It seems to adapt to driving style...when i drive aggressive it quickens up a little bit...when im driving like im 87 years old to save gas its dull and delayed

Have a real race. See if the car really is slower or if it only seems that way.

Just an FYI......high altitude areas (like Colorado) use lower octane gas because in this stratified air, 85 octane behaves like 87 octane.
This always confuses people who visit or just move here because they have always been told that 87 is the minimum octane rating they should use and they wind up spending more than they need to. In reality, 87 octane up here is like 90 octane at sea level. So when you fillup in the mountains use 85 octane! :) |
