Japanese business laws are different than the US. In Japan if you own 51% of a company it is considered fully owned.

It's not a real Daihatsu and selling a Toyota product as a Daihatsu i'm against it personally.I have both brands i can tell you the driving experience is nothing a like.
Daihatsu engines are small but terrible in a good way. strong for what it is.Toyota is more of civillized and tamed, frugal and economical. The driving experience on both is totally different.

actually in some markets, if you own 50%+1 of the shares of a company, you fully own the company. example, if the 50%+1 of the shares are sold out to and bought by the government, then it is said to be government-owned company.

that isn't surprising. The only reason I even know this about Japan is because it was mentioned when Toyota bought the 51% of Daihatsu.
