It is a large place. It's the number one volume Tundra dealer in the world. Twelve miles away, the same man owns another Toyota dealership (Fred Haas Toyota Country) and that dealership now has a new car inventory of 1,729 cars. I think they must have an off site storage facility because those two dealerships do not have nearly 5,000 new Toyotas on premisis. Why own 2 dealerships with the same brand 12 miles apart? There is a law in Texas that all car dealerships must be closed 1 weekend day per week, so he keeps one open on Saturday and closed on Sunday and the other open on Sunday and closed on Saturday. They see the growth. My understanding is that Exxon Mobil was thinking about building their North American HQ here, but wanted a firm commitment re The Grand Parkway (a toll road that has been in the minds of planners since the 1960s --- at a little over 180 miles, the longest beltway around any city in the world -- one of the 13 segments was completed in 1994 and I think parts of 2 others have been built over a long period). The people in the C-suite at Exxon Mobil finally gave the State of Texas an ultimatum to commit or they wouldn't commit. The state buckled (will still try to find more partners, but the state is on the hook for the commitment). Once this happened, Exxon Mobil announced in 2011 they will build their North American Headquarters here (and most believe the C-suite will eventually move down here from Las Colinas (near Dallas)). Ever since the Exxon Mobil announcement, the pace of development here has increased to an amazing level. I may end up moving closer to Lake Conroe to get back some of the tranquility that may be lost.

In 1999 I was at a BMW car/motorcycle dealer to test ride the new K1200RS. The building was surrounded by a sea of $30,000 BMWs that must have been 100 yards in a radius around the building.
