In DC or AL? I've not been to DC because F that place. There's not much to do in AL other than play video games and think about being soemwhere where there are things to do.

My godson, his siblings, and his parents moved to Manassas from the San Francisco bay Area. They lived there for four years (I visited them there during this time, and visited the area after they left). The people I encountered in nearby Springfield were among the rudest people I've ever encountered. My godson and the family were happy when his mom got a transfer to North Carolina (and they still live in NC)

DC/Northern VA is actually noted as one of the highest allergen locations in the country. We found that out when we were living there at the turn of the century (damn I love saying "turn of the century" and being around at one! lol).
