yeah man the maf was good, no half assing here. i don't see what's wrong with making cheap crap work, and if what we're talking about is a 5hp increase i don't see the point in spending hundreds of dollars on it. also, as long as the filter prevents stuff from entering the engine i don't see how it could compromise it. in the end it's a tube with a filter, there's only so much engineering you can do to that
