Yes, but I mention the Prius as the industry standard among hybrids and it is the car that sets the MPG bar. So to have a mid-size come along and challenge it is something. The Prius suddenly isn't as compelling to a lot of potential buyers when you have a conventional car like this that approaches its efficiency. Fact is, many people (not me) don't like the look of the Prius or its image/stigma and will be excited to have the option of a "regular" looking car and get the mileage they've been waiting for.
The Camry Hybrid is rated 43/39 for comparison. Toyota could've achieved the Accord's numbers but decided to make the Camry a fast and powerful hybrid. They also probably didn't want to impede on the Prius' territory either.
