Assumed, but a very good point that it must be done before disconnecting the alternator, or one is sure to pop the ALT fusible link.

the heavy red wire that attach's to the single stud on the alternator with the plastic cap is always "hot" if the ignition is on or not (alternator spinning or not) so it is best to disconnect the battery.
