Why'd you sell the diesel? Was it any good?

Yes, an excellent 1.4 litre engine. It was achieving 60+ miles per (Imperial) gallon.
My circumstances changed though and my driving is now mostly urban with no decent runs to help clear out the Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF). My concern was that this would eventually fail and lead to an expensive bill! Also the Multimode transmission (automated clutch and gearchange) is very expensive to "fix" if anything goes wrong after warranty period. Plus I was able to get a very good deal for a virtually new car. The new car has What Toyota call Multidrive S - a fancy name for CVT but with an added feature of manual mode, gear changes controlled by either steering wheel paddles or the shift lever. No doubt very expensive to fix post warranty too! I too find it strange that you seem to get a "scaled down" version in the U.S. with regards specification.
