Halogens (H4) as used in the rest of the world (only the US mandated sealed beams, and nobody else) were also glass, with a replaceable bulb.
But both sealed beams and H4 headlights eventually either had the bulb grow dim or the reflector became all matte, and of course you couldn't shape them into much else than flattish and round, or flattish and square. The headlights in my Yaris are the brightest and best shaped legal light I ever had in a car, thanks to their shape, so I won't complain. If they ever become yellow while I still have the car, I'll replace them. They're still crystal clear though. And sealed beams were an abomination. |
