By topping off as in filling up until you see gas at the cap. I never top off that much. First click and maybe add 1 or 2 more litres. |

There was a past thread where one of the main questions was (I'm paraphrasing) - 'Is the click an unfailingly reliable 'set point' for figuring MPG (will it ALWAYS happen in the same place), or can some sort of malfunction cause a difference. CTScott weighed in with at least one scenario/malfunction that could cause a difference, and (IIRC) others did as well. I've always applied 'my style' (filling until I can just see gas in the neck), so that thread confirmed that my quest for accuracy and consistency (however picky and 'OCDish') has some concrete basis. I suppose if I ever had a fuel related part fail on a car I might reevaluate 'my style'...but I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that would compel me to do so.

why risk it
It may be just a matter of time before you foul your canister. But actually there are more reasons to NOT top off your tank. You can Google them but this one here seems very convincing.

). When CTScott figured that the maximum capacity of the tank is 12.8 gallons, I knew this was correct because: 1. It's CTScott, and 2. Because of my 'running out of gas while pulling into a station' experience.
