Finished up my last runoffs qualifying race this weekend and I'm officially going to the runoffs.
The last runoff qualifying race was this weekend at the newly repaved ButtonWillow Raceway, its a pretty interesting and fun track, but with this weekends temps soaring well into the 100+ degrees it made driving pretty tricky. First race on Sat I manage to set a lap record at ButtonWillow even though I was stuck behind a much slower car. I figure if there wasn't any traffic I could have knocked another second or two off the lap time. All in All I'm pretty happy with myself for my Sat result. On Sunday I decided to switch things up and ran with the big boys in H Production in a horribly underprepped and overweight BSpec car. The inspectors were laughing pretty bad when I went up to weigh and came in almost 400lbs overweight. Even with a car not setup to run HP I managed to snatch 2nd place, but my bad qualifying time got me stuck behind a slower driver which kept me a ways off first place. One incident on track almost took me out for good but I managed to avoid the hit with little space to spare. Gotta say I couldn't be happier with how well the car performed this weekend, now all I gotta do is repeat the performance next month at the Runoffs Last edited by xnamerxx; 09-15-2014 at 11:04 PM. |

Great to see the car made it back in one piece, makes your Runoffs prep that much easier.

^ thats part of the reason I didn't push all that hard to pass the leading Pro7 car. Once I took 2nd in HP I figured I wouldn't catchup to Cory in the CRX, so I let the driver of the Pro7 keep me out of trouble.

After the race was finished, a few of the flaggers came up to me to shake my hand for avoiding that accident...they were saying I was very lucky I happen to catch him spinning at the right time.

The end of an era... At one point we had four of these cars running around, two in H Prod trim and two in B-Spec trim, now only one survives - for the moment anyway.
The Cal Club Region of SCCA asked if the emergency crew could use one of the cars for training before it was sent to the crusher, Toyota was cool with it, and since I want those guys to be good at their job if I ever need them I hauled the #18 up to Buttonwillow on Saturday so they could cut into it. And they did just that. Jaws of life and a number of other specialty tools were put to the test. In some cases these items had not been used in years, and they rarely get the opportunity to hack up an actual race car under controlled conditions. I even got to try it out, these tools have an awesome amount of power. What is left gets sent off to the crusher now.

The BS Yaris just lost 75lbs. While that is good, the quicker Mazda2 lost 100lbs.
