I have a 2012 Yaris hatch. At first, the seats were quite uncomfortable, but like anything, the body adjusts. It didn't take long until I found it very comfortable. However, I'm 6'4" tall so the reach to the gearshift was never an issue for me. Good luck.

^^^^^ This. I'm a fraction of an inch shorter than you, and I feel the same way. I also think the 3rd Gen seats are more comfortable than the 2nd Gen seats, at least as far as U.S. models are concerned.
