Lighter load on the crank, car revs up quicker.

What Wee said, but a few additional notes:
  • Increased drivetrain efficiency from reduced rotating mass--does not add horsepower to your engine, just reduces the amount spent turning the pulley, making a net gain in wheel hp (not brake hp)
  • Faster RPM drop when off-throttle
  • Additional noise/vibration/harshness (NVH) from removal of rubber insert on OEM pulley, your results may vary

This is probably documented elsewhere on the site/web, but it doesn't hurt to put it in the thread since the question comes up frequently.

Another myth some people believe is that you will gain hp because of weight reduction. In reality the difference in weight is only 38 oz (aprox. 1kg). It's really nowhere near enough to create a significant performance difference.

What you will get however is a faster climb towards the engine's peak power curve alowing for higher acceleration due to less torque being required to drive the engine accesories.

With little experience I have (one week and 300 miles) I'll say on my 5spd its a subtle but noticeable change. Much less throttle input is needed for the 3rd to 4th to 5th changes.

The best example is matching speeds of traffic for freeway onramps. You are up to 65 to 70 MPH before you realize it.
