Diesel cars are good for more than just fuel efficiency. Their higher torque makes them a better vehicle for hauling gear in a small car up hills all while keeping the fuel guzzling to a minimum.
Driving out to Quebec through the mountains for a mountain bike race with 2 bikes a cooler and suitcase was a lot for my Hyundai that I had at the time with a 1.6L engine. A diesel would've been the perfect option for me. I look forward to the day a reliable company like Toyota comes out with a diesel engine in Canada. You are correct about the purchase prices though, i'm not a fan of the premium |
