I have to disagree with your statement about Toyotas burning oil. I would say no more than most other modern cars, possibly less.

My previous 2004 Echo RS (ie Yaris Mk 1) was using hardly any oil at 230k km. My wife's 2006 Camry is also at around that mileage and not needing top ups between services. Likewise, for my current 2006 Yaris with 150k km. Oil consumption is normally minuscule with these cars, so long as they've been looked after.

they do burn more then they should. corolla/celica/MR2 affected big time (98-03 in US and even later years in europe). Camry and other cars with the 2.4L engine affected till 2009. Reports of prius oil burning, especially 2010.

my theory is low tension oil rings get gummed up easy and quickly. engine flush can help when done early on.
