If they start fixing them now I'm going to be mad because I was told over a year so I gave my 2008 back and got a 13 Elantra that I like a lot less than the Yaris it replaced...

It's being done by geographic priority based on propensity for fluctuating temperatures and humidity as those are the factors that increase the chances of failure.

That's what's been said from multiple sources for awhile. My question: How the flip does humidity get to the inflator charge...wouldn't that be hermetically sealed for an expected lifetime of at least 50 years?

You'd think so, but they went through the exercise of ranking and color coding each state on the map. Happy CA was ranked a red state (far too ironic).

Maybe the Canadian climate is considered low risk for these airbags.

I checked for recalls on my US 2007 sedan at http://www.toyota.com/recall and found 2007-2011 Yaris sedans are recalled.

The PDF document explained how affected cars are being recalled in 4 phases. My car is recalled in phase 2, although my local Toyota dealership did not have parts available yet when I called today.

Title
Safety Recall H0A - Remedy Notice
Multiple Models and Model Years
Takata Front Passenger Airbag Inflator (Zone C)

Description
The subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger airbag inflators produced by Takata. According to Takata, the propellant in these inflators may degrade after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity and fluctuating high temperatures. Degraded propellant can cause inflator rupture during airbag deployment. In the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, striking the vehicle occupants, and result in serious injury or death.
Remedy
The remedy will consist of the replacement of the airbag inflator or the airbag assembly, depending on the vehicle model.

I received another letter the other day.
it said my car was currently not effected.
this is the 3rd letter in the last 18 months that I've gotten stating the same thing.

I received a letter from Toyota U.K., some weeks, ago advising that my 2014 Yaris is subject to the air bag recall. I had previously checked on Toyota's website which stated, after submitting the relevant details, that it was not part of this recall.
They wrote in the letter that there is a worldwide shortage of the necessary part(s) and that I will be contacted at a later date when sufficient parts are available!

Sorry, I think I lost track of things somewhere in this thread. :-(

Going by several of the other posts, I was getting the impression that dealers were trying to avoid doing the airbag recall. Instead, I very pleasantly surprised to find them pretty much welcoming me with open arms!

Sent from my phone. Please excuse any typpos.

Had mine done this past week, I left it Tuesday night but didn't get it back until Thursday morning. At first the dealership said they were having problems with the computer needed to do the airbag replacement and asked if they could keep it an extra day, then they called back an hour before they closed and said it was ready. I didn't have time to pick it up, so my wife and son when and got it for me.

The bastards didn't even wash it for my troubles, but they did find a Filipino ₱10 coin, worth about 20¢ and left it in the tray. I was in the Philippines in March 2016.

Cheers! M2

Theres a big problem here in UK with gypsies stealing air bags from cars, they get accident damaed cars at auctions to repair and sell, along with other scams like crash for cash ,pic pocket gangs, shop lifting ,opening up the European borders let in east European organised crime.Car insurance is sky high here in the UK
