I'm looking forward to being able to confidently choose to take mine with passengers again, that's all.
Can you link to the information about those 11 deaths/180 injuries? Are they solely attributed to the airbags, or was that just a contributing factor?

I just got another recall notice in the mail. As someone in a "red" state, I will get it (as well as the other recalls) done in the near future; but I'm not sweating it either!

A quick Google news search provides this, from the Car and Driver blog, as the latest article to reference the 1 billion dollar settlement, 11 deaths/184 injuries, the fact that even a small collision can trigger the faulty units and that my state of California is one of the most at risk due to fluctuating temperatures and humidity.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/takata-...es-are-coming/

I understand what tarkus, wiiyari and others are saying about it being a remote chance, but I don't see the logic in rolling the dice when you don't have to. With it out of my dash, it's one less thing to worry about.

Having an aftermarket double-din head unit with microphone, usb to the glove box, etc., I was also a touch concerned about a tech faq'n something up, but my car was returned to me without a trace of anything having been done. It was the same with prior recalls. Maybe I was just lucky?

Dude, you better move out of there fast, before half the state falls into the sea at the next major earthquake.

Believe it or not, Toyota Canada still has not even issued a recall.

LOL my bad for the misspelling.

No recall in Canada, same airbags going into new cars, super slow roll-out...

There's been a myriad of shit surrounding this thing.

Toyota Canada has FINALLY issued the recall notice. We are now getting the notification letters stating the recall reason, and they are currently in the process of 'preparing sufficient quantities of the remedy parts'. At such time we will then receive a subsequent notification to proceed with taking action with your dealership to book an appointment.

I just checked for my 07 Hatchback and it looks like I have an interim notification basically stating they're get the parts ready for the recall.

SRC R31 (X31) - Interim Notice - Certain 2006 – 2008MY Yaris Hatchback and 2007MY Yaris Sedan - Front Passenger Airbag Inflator
Customer Interim Notification

Toyota is currently in the process of preparing the remedy parts. Please read the information below and in the attachment.

The subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger airbag inflators produced by Takata. According to Takata, the propellant in these inflators may degrade after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity and fluctuating high temperatures. Degraded propellant can cause inflator rupture during airbag deployment. In the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, striking the vehicle occupants, and result in serious injury or death.

It seems they have now. I dropped by my local dealership, Markville Toyota, and asked about the airbag recall. They checked the VIN and said, "actually there are about four safety-related recalls on your car, sir. When would you like the work done?". Clearly no problem there. They will also drop me home by shuttle and pick me up again, after the work's done.

Clearly since I have a subsequent post on Feb 27th stating that I had received notification from Toyota Canada about the issuance of the recall in this country.
