You're saying it turns on the compressor when you put it on defrost, even without the A/C button pushed? I've had a few GM cars which did that, but I've never noticed the compressor in my Yaris cycling on and off when it's in defrost mode.

almost all vehicles do this now. some vehicles you can turn it off, but I think for Toyota you have to run a switch off the ground and manually turn it off. it's so stupid.
I'm surprised you have not noticed the rpm's all over the place when idling with defrost on... it sound so horrible
