For those which have small feet ( such as I), the heel toe technique is most easily accomplished by literally using only your heel and toe. Many people are lazy and try to lay their whole foot on the pedals. Try only using your heel and toe. Before even getting started just try getting your foot placement right and finding an accurate leverage point. Your actual heel to toe axis is the most important step in using this technique.
