Consumers are basically being forced to subsidize the costs of developing 'safety systems' that are really only needed in autonomous vehicles. In regular cars, these systems are just complexity-adding gimmicks that will cost owners extra money in purchase/repairs over the lifetime ownership experience of the vehicle and allow certain types of drivers to dangerously ignore (or not even learn) defensive driving skills in favor of stupid, frivolous distractions.
