These stiff-when-rolling first gears in the 5-speed manual--did anyone have one like that when the car was brand new? Did anyone have one where the rolling 2-1 shift-shifting got easier over time/miles?

Never had that issue, but I have always double-clutched for every downshift in my car. It is an easy skill to learn and will add years to the life your transmission if done correctly.

Also, it's fun....and you can combine it with heel-toeing and put on some eurobeat and go to down like Takumi Fujiwara.

Reverse doesn’t have syncros . Sometimes you need to double clutch in order for things to line up to get it into reverse.

Or just put it in 1st before going into reverse. It has become a habit hehehe

Mine is stiff trying to get in 1st on a rolling stop, but works every time I double clutch.
I don't remember how it was when new, it's been 12 years lol
