Thanks for the thoughts, guys. I'd prefer to avoid custom work if I can. And Nexus, thanks, I'll definitely let you know if I do need a bypass valve.

I've put more thought into this, and done some research, and will talk to my tuner about this prior. However, I believe that having fuel maps done on a dyno will eliminate any issues that would arise from dumping metered air (and even now, I've yet to notice any stalling/roughness/etc. after the BOV vents). If I'm correct in saying so, the maps would be designed around test runs which would include moments in which the BOV activates and dumps metered air, correct? My other thought was that if it didn't work this way, then how would cars with higher boost be able to run a BOV without totally stalling the engine?

Also their is a specific setting for BOV in the FIC to eliminate any problems with it. Your tuner should be able to fix your code.
My BOV is adjustable as well, but I haven't bothered with it (yet). What bothers me is that we should both have P0101 if my theory was correct... Could it be possible you're letting out LESS metered air because you tightened your BOV? And as a result, your theroetical mix isn't so far off as the actual mix to throw a code?

I think thats exactly whats going on. My BOV was set so loose when I got it when my hand was near the vent I felt air being sucked in at idle. Once its tuned they program the piggy back to ignor the mass air when U let off the throttle. This is when the BOV vents and for a moment the mass air is still reading, causing it to go very rich.

You have to remember, when the you shift and close the throttle, the turbo is still spooled to an extent and is still pulling air through the MAF and out the BOV. That's why you get a rich condition. The air going through the MAF isn't going into the motor, but the ECU thinks it is and is still dumping in fuel.

There's a couple of ways around it while using a MAF. You can move it to after the BOV, or program whatever computer you're using to look at the throttle position sensor and have a base map off throttle position, using the MAF for fine adjustment rather than the only input.

Anyone know if the FIC can be used with the UEGO wideband to automatically detect AFRs then correct them based on user entry? Would make things VERY easy and simple. Always the best route.

Their are some good videos on Youtube that help descripe the features of the FIC and a little on how it works. All the videos are made by AEM, so their for real. I have the wideband already installed and I should be recieving my FIC tomarrow. I plan on reading all the instructions installing and then trying some tuning myself with the help of those videos. The wideband will tell me if I'm going in the right direction or just making it worse. I would definitely get the wideband. It tells you exactly whats going on and using your tach. U can tell where you need to make adjustments.
I will let U know how it turns out.

Has anyone concidered the Allan Phillips Racing ECU for their tuning needs?

I know it's pricy and all, but it looks like it would do everything with ease.

The jimze sc kit puts out 1 bar, as far as i can tell.

Therefore our cars should be ok at 12 psi. As long as the tune isnt crazy aggressive and richens out the afr.

Stop your reasoning right there. 12psi on one thing is not 12psi on another depending on how much air it pumps out. A tune cannot be "aggressive or subtle" The fuel is tuned to 11.* AFR and the ignition is dialed in to where there is no knock.

In terms of aggresiveness it relates to how much pressure you are pumping in there. Say on this engine 6psi on his turbo kit is streetable. you can get away with 8psi on a good tune, but on these internals and that turbo, you would be wise to not try to push more than that.

I see, and thank you. I shouldn't be comparing psi from the turbo to a sc.

See, you guys can hit me with the noob hammer once in a while. lol

Just wondering about that jimze blower and how much more it will put out and stress our engines.

Just want to make sure this is 100% clear. You can't even compare boost numbers from different turbo's, because different a/r's, compressor sizes, etc, can all make it different.

No, its not that. I just don't want to see anyone blowing up their engines from thinking that. If you didn't know, somewhere down the line it may have happened to you if you didn't have the proper info. I'd have to see the flow charts for the supercharger to compare to anything, but its hard to judge without testing it out and seeing how much you can push it.

I'm still looking around for a cheap G60 supercharger in good condition or an M45, or a GT25. I keep losing the damn ebay auctions

Yeah don't feel bad, you gotta learn somehow... A couple months ago I didn't even know what a turbocharger or surpercharger was.

Interesting aside, and a testament to the learning power of our ECUs. For the first week and a half my narrowband signal has averaged about .22. As of the last couple days, it has actually risen to average out at about .38. Not too informative, but clearly the ECU has gotten better at running stoich conditions, even with forced induction in the mix. Tuning is obviously still needed though.

So you have no fuel management right now aside from the stock ecu and only have a narrowband?

Even I know that is risky! Lol

Yep

I was originally expecting to get tuned before doing this much driving, but complications extended the install and then school started so I NEED my car. Not to mention my potential tuner gave off vibes of being a total ass. I rarely push 5 psi though, so I'm definitely trying to play it safe. There will be plenty of time to blow people away once tuning is done.

All i know is that it must be extremely difficult to have a turbo and not drive like u have one.

I dont think i could do it lol. More power to ya!

I must say i have really enjoyed this thread and i wish u nothing but the best!

Oh, and once you learn the FIC, you will be getting pm's from me, bro! I am planning on using it with my sc setup in the next couple of months.

Yes, I understand.

My question was supposed to be in general, ie "can our engines run @ 12psi safely without building the motor".

That was my question. :D

:brokenhe art:

Look at it this way, whats the power output of a GT25 @ 12psi compared to a GT35. The difference is astronomical.
