Just found this thread. I bought my car used and it came with the AFE intake system already installed and I need to get my car smog checked for the first time soon so I'm in the same boat as some of you.

Does anyone know where I can buy the stock air intake assembly for the Yaris? I think I'm just going to install the OEM intake assembly permanently and sell the AFE one but I need to find out where I can buy it.

I bought my Yaris used, so I had to get smog checked. The car came with a CAI, but the smog guy did not care. He was to busy talking with CARB, asking why his system would not recognize my car. Turned out California had not updated there system for CAN. So they told him to just do a sniff test and call it good.

What year is your car? Is it a hatch? I'll swap you my stock( with k&n ) for your Cai.

Precisely why I don't believe in liberalism... at least not completely.

Yea in Calif..its pretty tough. If you want to go fast...legally...you just have to buy a "fast " car to begin with.
Yes there are illegal smog guys and shops..but if they are caught..it jeopardizes there business and their livelihood and their families. I personally used to use a guy in N. Hollywood for a Mustang & a v-8 powered prerunner truck I had...He was caught...and sent to prison...not jail, ...PRISON.FYI it obviously was a large illegall smog shop he was running, there is no way to keep it secret..too many people know about these shops from loose lips. A friend of mine has a twin turbo Porsche..he pays $600.00 to his "guy" every two years, whom is also " star certified"..which the state mandates you periodically take your car to one of these facilities , its a safety feature to combat illegal shops he doesn't deal with streetracers ,muscle cars etc..or younger people..seems to be a good formula for keeping out of trouble.

FOR ALL YOU ANTI SMOG FOLKS: I 100% agree with the EPA and THANK GOD for what they have done here in Calif. When I was a kid the smog in L.A was some of the worst in the world. The skies were so dark some days they were black..you couldn't see the foothills/mountains less than 10 miles away, your lungs burned so bad ,we were forced to sit inside our classrooms, and not allowed outside. I used to ride into L.A. in bumper to bumper traffic with millions of awful 60s and 70s automobiles just pumping out eye watering emissions..you could not even think of driving with your windows down without feeling nauseated it was awful, just like the cars were.
Now the air is clear, and breathable on all but the worst days of summer..a far cry from being quarantined inside our houses and classrooms. And there are MULTI MILLIONS more cars on the roads today than then..and the air still cleaner!!! Just get in a drivethrough today behind a average old 60s/70s muscle car or pickup truck..and its just terrible ,just like getting stuck behind a stinking diesel truck..that ONE SINGLE OLD CLUNKER...will pollute & stink up the air more than a entire small parking lot of new cars. That's impressive work, by everyone to make this awesome state inhabitable. These are not exaggerations by any stretch..the air was really that bad here from the 50s until around the early 80s

All my cars have catalytic converters, and even though some of my past cars were modified they all would pass a actual "smog test" but never the visual..and they never...never stink of unburnt fuel.

If you have a CARB certified part with a sticker..your parts will be okay. mufflers wont matter, and underdrive pully..I don't even think would be a factor at all. I lost my sticker for the INJEN intake for my Scion..so its technically smog illegal.so I have to replace it with my stock airbox come smog time, actually I don't even use the CAI anymore it does nothing...just sounds kinda fun. If coupled with a forced induction set up or intake /exhust head work then its a good lil power adder. Id like to be able to do a supercharger at some point so I can easily convert back and forth, something you cannot do with a turbo set up. Its frustrating in Calif to today to make a slow car fast..but that's the way it is..its worth it in the long run. Id like another WRX...but the dammned thing was one of the worst reliable fragile cars I ever owned..worse than my mustang is that possible
