Suspension parts voids warranty?

I called toyota today and I not to sure if the guy knew what he was talking about but here goes. I asked if adding suspension parts such as TRD rear sway bar, TRD strut tower bars,TRDlowering spring, and TRD shocks voids the warranty? Has anyone ran into the same problem?

I believe when you add TRD components, you'll need to do it at the Toyota Dealorship so that the warranty holds for the new parts your put on.

TRD parts have a 12month warranty , but if installed by a dealer they have a 36 month warranty, in New Zealand anyway , in the USA who knows

Accessories Warranty
Accessories Coverage: For accessories purchased at the time of the new vehicle purchase, the Toyota Accessory Warranty coverage is in effect for 36 months/36,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service date, which is the same coverage as the Toyota New Vehicle Limited Warranty. For accessories purchased after the new vehicle purchase the coverage is 12 months, regardless of mileage, from the date the accessory was installed on the vehicle, or the remainder of any applicable new vehicle warranty, whichever provides greater coverage, with the exception of car covers. Car covers are warranted for 12 months from the date of purchase and do not assume any coverage under the Toyota New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

12 months, regardless of mileage, from the date of installation on the vehicle or the remainder of any applicable new vehicle warranty, whichever provides greater coverage with the following exceptions:
TRD Superchargers - Dealer-installed TRD Supercharger systems are warranted by TRD for 12 months or for the remainder of the vehicle's Toyota Powertrain Warranty when installed by a Toyota dealer.
The TRD supercharger warranty covers not only the defective dealer-installed TRD supercharger, but also any Toyota-warranted part that is damaged or caused to fail by the defective dealer-installed TRD part.
Additionally, TRD offers a limited lifetime warranty feature on dealer-installed shocks and struts that becomes effective from the date the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty expires and extends for as long as the original purchasing customer owns the vehicle. The limited lifetime extension covers parts replacement only (no labor) and requires the submission of a copy of the dealer repair order as original purchase verification. This warranty claim must be submitted directly to TRD.
TRD Performance Air Filters - Are guaranteed for the life of your vehicle against workmanship and material defects as long as the original purchaser owns it.
Dealer-installed TRD body enhancement kits* are warranted by TRD for 12 months or for the remainder of the vehicle’s Toyota Comprehensive Warranty when installed by a Toyota dealer. Defects covered include, excessive orange-peel paint appearance, color mismatch, warpage, cracked body parts and dull paint.

the trd sway bar takes like 10 minutes to put on. if you were unsure about it and needed to take the car in for a major repair, you could just take it off in no time.

If anything TRD should offer a supercharger for all their engines. It would increase profitability! Stock 106hp, throw on a supercharger (albeit with some hood changes no doubt for clearance), and it would easily push 145-150hp! Toyota seems to favour the new 5.7L along with the 4.0L V6 as the engine of choice for all out TRD performance.

Any changes or 'mods' to a vehicle that can affect performance of other parts, by decreasing their useful life can void a warranty. I know for the s'chargers, Toyota only has a parts warranty if you install it yourself for 12 months. You can utilize the factory warranty of 3yrs/36K on parts AND labour if the dealer installs it. Sway bars are an added bonus, especially for those running stock skinny tires.

I added a sway bar and asked the dealership and they said if it was a TRD suspension part it void the warranty only if it was installed improperly.

The only way a part will void a warrenty is if the part that was added caused the failure. Adding a swaybar will not void your car's warrenty, unless the swaybar causes the car to fail (pretty much impossible!).
