Painting Pillar Garnishes tonight; need opinions.

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be painting my pillar garnishes to match my center console tonight. I'm definitely doing the front and rear garnishes but I'm debating whether I should do the middle ones (between the front and rear doors).

I attached a picture below to show the color of my center console panels.

Let me know! To middle, or not to middle?

I think you guys are right. I'm imagining it with the middle not done and it's coming off quite tacky.

Was on my lunch break and got the front and rear ones removed (prep work I won't have to do when I get home). The rear ones weren't as easy to get off. Just went through the PDF for the middle ones and looks like they'll be just as easy as the rear ones...

You should do a black headliner and paint the handles too.

Real nice. How hard was it to paint? What prep work did you have to do and what kind of paint did you use?

I first sanded the pieces with really fine sand paper (had I used bigger grit size, it would have taken the texture of the pieces right off).

Primered the pieces (Duplicolor I think).

Did several coats of blue using Duplicolor Metal Specks (blue, of course; I think they only have blue, red and silver with this type).

Did several coats of clear acrylic. I'm pretty sure it's Duplicolor as well. The can is white and the cover is a clear plastic. It says it's good for things like kitchen appliances and such.

I used the exact products and method for my center console a while ago. Had the center one for a long time and absolutely no fading.

Hint if you're going to do this. Don't rush it and make sure the coats dry for the prescribed amounts of time before applying the next coat. I did mine a little too quickly and I got some spots that are hazy instead of all glossy. My fault completely; I'm impatient. So I'm probably going to do them a second time when I get a sunny day off soon to make them perfect like the center console.
