both lights broke

both of the small side turn signal lights have fallen out on my hatchback,

the first one i noticed after arriving from a trip of about 250 km, it was hanging out and when i tried to put it back in , i noticed the little plastic piece that holds it was broken,

i made the trip home today, same distance and noticed the other one hanging out with the plastic piece broken off.

wtf? maybe this was an act of vandalism or something because it seems really wierd that both would be broken like that.

Are there any scratch marks around the lights. Other folks are so jealous of us with our yaris's I wouldn't doubt some wayward types would try and hurt the car.

no, no scratches at all, that is why i think it is really wierd that both broke at the same time.

when i noticed the first one, i checked the other side and it felt kind of loose; it definitely had some play but didnt' appear to be broken.
when i got home, it was hanging out as well.

i'm going to call the dealership tomorrow.

What a weird coinkidink. I don't suspect vandalism though.

I recently had one of fender turn signal/repeater lights break, in exactly the same way (i.e. the plastic spring/clip gave way, in a fatigue-like failure). Noticed it just hanging off the side of the car in the garage one night.

Dealer immediately exchanged the light unit, no questions asked.

Weird - I thought I was just an isolated incident. Our cars now are both exactly 1yr old stuffy?

................... how can it be vandalism when theres no scratches around the side repeaters? unless they used a tissue and a flat head screwdriver to get it out then just put it back in.

sorry to hear, its a bitch when sumfin like this goes wrong. I had a problem with my battery one day. 2nd week of using it, IT DIED!!!! and i was like WTF!!?? so i called up my local toyota dealer and they said i had to toe it out to the service department, but i live in an appartment and theres no way a toeing truck would fit in the parking. So after 3 days of yelling to toyota, they sent down a toyota repair guy. And he looked at my car, he charge my battery and he said that the charging wire wasnt it or sumfin like that. Everything was done in 10 mins. So after 3 days of consulting to toyota, at the end it took 10 mins to fix.

BLEH hope my story kinda puts u on ease.......super glue ur repeaters on?

I had that problem with my yaris also, i had to buy a new light at the dealer the plastic is very cheap it heats up very easily and bends and with that constant heating and cooling it breaks.

hasher22, first off, sorry to hear of your battery trouble Glad to hear things turned out OK.

The fender repeater lights are designed to be easily removed with just your fingers only. You just slide the lamp unit towards the front of the car first (and against the plastic clip/spring), and then it should be easy to pop the entire assembly out of the panel. It seems unlikely, to me anyways, that a vandal would take the time to carefully go thru this exercise, only to just bust the plastic springs, and leave (as far as stuffy can tell) the rest of the car unscathed.

When I mentioned to my dealer that I found one of my repeater lights broken, they immediately replaced the unit. Easy breezy. Considered a defect, and covered under warranty.

I'm surprised, Adriaan, that yours wasn't also a warranty item. I was prepared to pay the replacement cost too (couple bucks, no big deal), but my dealer had it swapped and done before I could give them any money.

the dealer is ordering the parts and should be in today, the guy i talked to wasn't aware of any other yarii with this problem.
he didn't say if it was covered under the warranty, but i'm hoping they are because there is no reason they should break like this.

Actually mine has the same problem, when I was washing the car last week after installed the LED tail, I found the side marker to be lose. Then I poke it a bit and it just came straight out. Brought it to the dealer when I was doing oil change, they said they will replace it, didn't mention any cost though. But have to order the light so will go back tomorrow and see.

I guess Toyota will be awared regarding this issue when they see an abnormal order for the side markers.

i wonder if they are going to just replace them with the same defective parts?

interesting that all of our vehicles that have had this problem are 2006 models, it might start to show up with more regularity.

Well, I don't see how they can replace it with the same defective parts, as my broken one doesn't stay in the hole at all. I have used some tape to tape it up for now while waiting for the new light.

Got it replaced by the dealer at no cost. However, the tape they used to hold the old light left some mark on the body, anyone knows how to remove those?
