tickets for tinting
Today I got pulled over and thought I ran a light or something. But then the Cop started making this bs over my tint and I though to myself "I'm def gonna receive a ticket". I was just like "finish talking so I can get my ticket already".
Somehow I ended up with two!!! I received one ticket for my front windows and one for my rear sides. WTF??? Can they even do that? I'm thinking that stupid Cop just needed his fill of tickets before the end of the month so he just go around and looks for everything...

Yes, they definatly can do that if your tint is not legal in NYS.
If your tint is not legal, what else did you expect? if it is legal in NYS, it should be easy to have the ticket dismissed. NYS tint laws: http://www.ehow.com/about_5262688_ne...tint-laws.html |

LULz...many, many lulz
bring case to court, do not pay 1) today, remove tint 2) photograph todays newspaper, show the date, along with the tint-free vehicle 3) go to court, bring vehicle to court 4) contest the ticket, plead you took the tint off immediately, show them the picture, show them the car in the parking lot, say you learned your lesson 5) they may go easy or drop your fine, if you were always 100% nice to the officer 6) fine is dropped if officer doesn't show up in court |

I don't know how it is there, but here #6 only applies if you plead not guilty at your initial court date (plea hearing) and then set a trial date. If the officer does not appear at that trial, your case is dismissed. Police officers aren't expected to show up to court to hear whether or not you will plead innocent, guilty, or no-contest for every ticket they write, they only have to show if a trial is requested. Otherwise they would never get out of court.

It's always a good idea to go to court and fight it. The worst thing that can happen is you end up paying the original ticket, but most of the time you can get it reduced or dismissed entirely. It also works in your favor if you have a good driving record and were polite to the cop. If you behave yourself you have a good chance in court. Oh, and in MI you can get the medical exemption to have darker tint and have tint on ALL the windows including the front windshield.

I know some will have differing opinions on this, but tint ticketing drives me crazy. I understand the two front side windows, but the rears, when suv's and minivans come from the factory dark. And every state is different, AZ and NV don't care what darkness you use, UT, ID, CA are a pain in the butt. I've always wondered if you can get and exemption if you've had skin cancer and need the tint on your side windows. It makes a huge difference in comfort. It's not always for looks. Clearly an unlucky day to be pulled over for something so trivial-but I've been there, pulled over in Idaho for no other reason, but my tint passed their test meter, it was early dusk and overcast-of course the windows appeared black.

"3. The windows are tinted, upon the recommendation of a physician or a Christian Science practitioner treating the owner, or an immediate family member of the owner of the vehicle, by the application of tinting film to the inside of the glazing provided that the combination of the glazing and tinting film permits passage through the windows of at least 35% of the visible light striking the windows. Tinting films permitted under this subdivision may not be reflective. A written statement from the treating physician or Christian Science practitioner which identifies the patient, the medical condition justifying the recommendation, whether the condition is temporary or permanent and the vehicle to which the recommendation applies, including the make, model, year and vehicle identification number, shall be carried in the vehicle at all times. Tinting film applied under this subparagraph shall be removed when a vehicle covered by the recommendation is sold, when the person for whom a recommendation was made no longer resides in the household of the owner of the vehicle or when the duration of a temporary condition which is the basis for a recommendation has expired." That was taken from http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/tint_wi.html I find it odd that manufacturers are putting somewhere around 5-10% on rear windows of cars, yet after market tint will get you pulled over for the same amount. OP> Did the cop that pulled you over run a light meter on your tint to verify that it was beyond the legal limit? If not, that right there would probably be enough leverage to have the tickets dismissed.

Wow, now I thought PR was bad, they give out tickets like if it was christmas, its no joke down here. Here is something that happened to my dad, he has a 2006 Rav4 and that vehicle comes with stock tint, a police officer stopped him and pulled out a device to check the percentage of the tint and then realized that the tint was stock, so (FTP), you need to fight for yours and check the percentage law in you area, hope all goes well, holla at me.

Wow, that sucks. I've had a ticket for my front windows, never for the rear.

Yeah the WHOLE window. I met a guy a few years ago who had one of the exemptions, and he had really dark tint on ALL his windows. Not something I would do, but he seemed quite proud to brag that he was allowed to do it.
